This was Hogan only Open Championship and caused him to miss the final major of the season.
Snead won the 1946 Open at St Andrews, but did not return to defend. Hogan being the next Big name post war winner, winning £500, Peter Thomson came second winning £200. Not until Palmer arrived in 1960 and winning back to back 1961 and 62 did the Open start to become what it is today. Item #14339
