Bertram Stanley Prance (5 December 1889 – 9 August 1958) was a British artist, poster artist and illustrator who worked as a cartoonist for Punch magazine among others.

Between the wars, Prance's works were featured in publications like The Humorist, London Opinion, Punch, and Tatler. He was in high demand as a book illustrator, collaborating with Anthony Armstrong and B.C. Hilliam, a friend and part of the singing duo Mr. Flotsam and Mr. Jetsam. In 1934, he exhibited a painting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
A notable piece of his work was the cover design for "Village at War" (1941), a humorous fictional account of village life during World War II, penned by Armstrong. He also illustrated the Lone Pine series of children's books by Malcolm Saville following the war.
Prance was an active member of the Savage Club and held the position of President at the London Sketch Club in 1948.
After leaving Bideford, Prance resided in Rudgwick, West Sussex, where he built a house called 'Chudleigh.' Artist W. Heath Robinson was his neighbor, and they formed a friendship. During World War II, 'Chudleigh' was requisitioned by the British Army, and Prance returned to Bideford. However, the Army's alterations to the property distressed him, ultimately leading to its sale after the war.
In 1952, he briefly lived in Hampstead and subsequently purchased West Campfield Place on Leith Hill in Surrey, where he established a new family home. As with many artists, Prance's output declined during and after the war, causing him to turn to painting. Using gouache and oils, he depicted the countryside, skies, coasts, and seashores that had captivated him during his youth in Devon. Item #12092
