London, England: Sherratt and Hughes, 1911. 151p. de luxe quarter vellum. With scarce dust jacket as published.
Limited edition of 150 copies. 15s. nett.
Rare large-paper edition, published after the trade edition, with new material added. With the list of subscribers in the rear giving the limitation statement: "the list of first subscribers to the present edition, which is limited to 150 copies…". The first to attempt to gather a listing of golfiana (books, balls, clubs, cups, medals, prizes, etc.) in book form - Wood was one of the earliest collectors of such items. Wood's chapter on books gives extensive descriptions of the predecessors of golf, Kolf and Jeu de Mail, as well as other important early volumes on the game.
Contains the subscribers list and the reviews to the rear. Still today one of the finest and referred to collection ever put together, sadly no longer together, but never forgotten thanks to his masterpiece. Tough to find in the regular trade edition. This one of the splendid limited edition copies, fine addition to any serious library.
Percy Boomer has used the bibliography as a check list, no doubt to search for books and to mark books he owns, super association copy of one of the earliest golf book collectors. Very good. Item #10459
