Australian born, Travis was the most successful amateur golfer in the United States during the early 1900s, only taking up the game at 34 years of age, went on to win three US Amateurs and the British Amateur (becoming the first foreigner) in 1904 at Sandwich, a noted golf journalist and publisher, an innovator in all aspects of golf, a teacher, and a respected golf course architect, founder of the American Golfer magazine and widely thought of as the best putter of all time.
While the majority of the book is instructional, it contains two of the earliest chapters on US golf architecture, "The Construction and Upkeep of Courses," and "Putting Greens." Also, chapters on Caddies; Clubs; Club Shafts and Balls; Etiquette, Rules, Glossary of Technical Terms, Index, and Rules Index. This copy in very good condition with no external flaws, no internal markings.
