Peter Ashmore was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, he was a water colourist and illustrator who worked for the Look and Learn children's newspaper and the Eagle Magazine between 1950 and 1969. His subjects were many and varied including nature studies, old bi-planes, retrospective motoring, cricket, tennis and golf subjects, as well as Edwardian street views. He went on to work in the motor industry designing car bodies, and was part of a group of designers which created a prototype model of the Car of the Future for the 1951 Festival of Britain. Some of his later work depicted historic marine scenes and sporting venues. Peter Ashmore eventually became a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of art in London. Item #6239
